How It Works
Addition & Subtraction: Find a common denominator by multiplying the denominators, then combine the numerators. Formula: a/b ± c/d = (a×d ± c×b) / (b×d).
Multiplication: Multiply numerators together and denominators together. Formula: a/b × c/d = (a×c) / (b×d).
Division: Multiply by the reciprocal (flip the second fraction). Formula: a/b ÷ c/d = (a×d) / (b×c).
Simplification: Results are reduced to lowest terms by dividing both parts by their greatest common divisor (GCD). Improper fractions are shown as mixed numbers where appropriate.
